WHAT IS YOUTH EMPOWERMENT GHANA (Y.E.G)?

Youth Empowerment Ghana is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on improving the livelihood of the youth through its three primarily objectives; EDUCATION, INSPIRATION and EMPOWERMENT. Under education, we seek to provide the Youth with free motivational talks/seminars, free health education and health insurance registration ranging from (4 – 17yrs), financial education through savings and many other forms of training and development. We inspire their lives for a better tomorrow through inspirational talks, sharing insight with Resource personnel. we Empower by addressing their situation and then take actions to improve their access to resources, transforming their consciousness through their beliefs, values and attitudes to stand for what is right, make a difference positively in their lives and others to help make society better.

Our Motto: CHANGE IS A CHOICE

Our Mission

Is to empower the youth through education and inspiration to help build the youth with the tools and resources they need to make society better.

Our Vision

We believe that the youth has the opportunity to achieve his/her fullest potential and are a critical resource for every community when they participate in and contribute to all aspect of life.

Why youth empowerment Ghana (Y.E.G)?

After our survey at the various rural areas and personal experiences in volunteering in such places, we came out with some findings which concluded that most of the youth needed empowerment, inspiration and how to utilize the little resources they have around to excel in their endeavors which were however not available, even if available utilizing it to full potentiality is impossible and seems very expensive thereby being inaccessible.

This brought about the birth of Youth Empowerment Ghana; to make aforementioned available and accessible to the Youth, thus all for free.

Proponents of youth empowerment maintain strongly that the cause of youth empowerment is closely linked with education, health and handiwork. We strive to breach the gap between the present and the future through educating, inspiring and empowering the youth efforts to make a difference. This position is adequately acknowledged by the 2010 National Youth Policy of Ghana which states, among other things, “that education and skills training are critical to the development of a young person's productive and responsible life”

It also states that” the main goal of the National youth policy is to ensure the development of knowledgeable, self-reliant, skilled, disciplined, and a healthy population with the capacity to drive and sustain the socio-economic development of the nation”. There is a saying that in order to enable the youth to contribute constructively to society it is imperative to improve the quality of the educational system to ensure that the products of our educational institutions become critical thinkers, problem solvers and accomplished leaders.

Professionals, resource persons, young graduates and students, who are geared towards empowering the youth to help build the society and make it a better place came together to give birth to this family.

What is the source of finance for (Y.E.G)?

Currently, our main source of finance is internal contribution. Each, member is entitled to contribute twenty Ghana cedis (20.00ghc) and a monthly subscription for 5ghc. We also have in plan to seek external funds generation but since it has not come into display yet making us to manage the internal generation for now. We also accept donations from all. This will also be updated always.

Where(Y.E.G) does operates?

We plan to begin operations in the Ekumfi District at the Mfantseman East in the Central Region of Ghana. Specifically we tend to begin with five (5) communities out of the ten 10 communities we organized our survey and have worked with. Our choice of communities has to do with the community’s major need in relation to our objectives. With time we shall extend our operations to the others.

ABOUT WHERE Y.E.G OPERATES.

The Ekumfi District was established in 2012 by L.I. 2170. The district capital is Essarkyir and is one of the 20 districts in the Central Region. Carved out of the Mfantseman District, it is a first-class investment and tourism destination.

STRUCTURE

The assembly has one constituency with 26 electoral areas and 26 Unit Committees and its assembly is made up of 26 elected members and nine government appointees. The district chief executive and the Member of Parliament are members of the assembly. It has eight sub-districts made up of one town council and seven area councils comprising Otuam, Narkwa, Eyisam, Essarkyir, Ekrawfo, Abiram, Assafa and Srafa.

LOCATION

The district is located along the Atlantic coastline of the Central Region and is bounded to the west by the Mfantsemen District, to the north by the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District, to the east by the Gomoa West District and to the south by the Gulf of Guinea.

POPULATION

The district has a projected total population of 68,419 (in 2013) made up of 32,481 males and 35,578 females. The annual population growth rate of the district is 2.8 per cent. There are 55 communities in the district with Narkwa being the most densely populated.

ECONOMY

Pineapple production is the main farming activity in the district. However, other agricultural products such as vegetables and fruits are also produced on a large scale there. Fishing is another economic activity carried out by the people, especially those along the coastal areas. Salt mining is done on a small scale at Suprodo and Narkwa. Although there are lagoons in the district, the potential of the salt industry is yet to be fully tapped. Trading, which is an important economic activity, is carried out virtually in every area in the district with Essuehyia as a major focal point and involves agricultural products and other merchandise.

There are large deposits of quality clay for the construction industry and a clay factory located at Ekumfi Swedru, which produces clay products for the housing industry.

Currently, demand for housing, particularly by workers in the district capital, is on the increase. There is also high demand for office accommodation for institutions which will very soon locate in the district.

TOURISM

The district abounds in several tourists attractions, prominent among them being the undeveloped beaches located at Narkwa, Asafa, Arkra and Amisano. These beautiful beaches are yet to be developed to attract both foreign and local tourists to boost local economic development for job and wealth creation.

HEALTH

The district is yet to construct a district hospital. It has the following facilities:  a health centre at Essuehyia and Otuam with Community Health Based Planning System (CHPS) compounds at Nanaben, Narkwa, Edumafa, Ekumpoano, Srafa Kokodo, Eyisam and Immuna.

There are two private health facilities: the Bethel Homeopathic Clinic at Essuehyia and the God’s Gift Maternity Home.

WATER

Most of the communities in the southern part of the district have pipe-borne water from the Essarkyir water pumping station. Water, however, could not be extended to the communities in the northern sector due to broken-down pipes, which occurred during the construction of the Essarkyir-Ajumako road. The second phase of the Essarkyir water project will target all the communities in the northern part of the district.
